We will never live lives of gratitude until we first learn how to be thankful to God for the seemingly mundane. The things that we take for granted are often God’s most brilliant reminders of his love for his people and his just rule over all things. So instead of complaining about another Monday, we would be much better off if we took the time to thank God for his glory revealed in even the most mundane areas of our lives.
It’s just another Monday but I am thankful that God has given me the gift of sight. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy seeing the look on my son’s face through the side view mirror while he rode home with his head hanging out of the window.
It’s just another Monday but I am thankful that God has given me the gift of hearing. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy hearing my son sing along with our church family in our Sunday morning worship service.
It’s just another Monday but I am thankful for the gift of taste. My wife made pancakes Sunday night. They were good.
It’s just another Monday but I am thankful for the gift of smell. I made the turkey bacon and turkey sausage. By the time I was done, our kitchen looked like a pool hall. But I love the smell that is left behind in a room after bacon has been cooked. Nine times out of ten, that smell means that a good time was had by all. We had a good time.
It’s just another Monday but I am thankful for the gift of touch. When I finished preaching on Sunday morning, my son walked to me and gave me a hug. I hope that we never outgrow that.
Today is so much more than just another Monday. It is a blank canvass that will soon be filled with millions of seemingly mundane strokes that are meant to give you a greater sense of the glory of the Artist behind it all.
