Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Psalm 51:8 (ESV)
Sometimes God’s grace comes in the form of a surprise $100 check in the mail. Sometimes it comes as a broken bone. Today, I’m thankful for the broken bone variety.
Here are a few.
1. I’m thankful for a truck that breaks down. It reminds me of just a few of the good friends that I have who don’t mind coming to help me out in the middle of the night.
2. I’m thankful that God gave me below average athletic ability and zero music ability in high school. I have no doubt that had he given me exceptional talent in either category, I would be Justin Bieber, Johnny Manziel or some combination of the two today.
3. I’m thankful for that nervous feeling I get whenever I stand up to preach. It forces me into a situation where we’re all going to hear a word from God instead of one from me.
4. I’m thankful for the terribly cheesy love story that I watched with my wife over the weekend. The laughs we enjoyed together were probably better than any we would have had from a movie that was intentionally funny.
It’s Monday. You will probably have to endure a few things that you don’t really like today. But hang on. Some of God’s best blessings come in the form of broken bones.
